Why do tea trees in tea gardens need to be pruned

The management of tea gardens is to obtain more tea tree buds and leaves, and using tea pruners machine is to make tea trees sprout more. The tea tree has a characteristic, which is the so-called “top advantage”. When there is a tea bud at the top of the tea branch, the nutrients inside the tea tree are mainly transported to the top, first ensuring the growth and development of the top bud, and at the same time, the growth of the side buds is relatively inhibited. As a result, the overall number of tea tree sprouts is reduced and the yield is not high. In order to suppress the top dominance of tea trees, tea farmers often resort to pruning, using tea pruner to cut off the top tips and stimulate the growth of side buds and branches. Generally, three or four prunings are required from the seedling stage to the adult stage to promote more branching of the tea tree. After the tea tree enters the official picking period, it needs to be lightly pruned every year or every other year, that is, 2 to 3 centimeters of branches and leaves on the crown of the tree are cut off, and the tea tree is trimmed flat to form an arc or flat picking surface. This will help tea trees sprout more and more uniformly, with higher yield and better quality, making it convenient for both manual and machine harvesting.

After years of picking, the tea tree has a layer of fine branches on the crown surface, often forming “chicken claw branches” with weakened germination ability. At this time, you can use a tea trimmer to cut off 3 to 5 cm of fine branches and leaves on the crown surface. In this way, when the next round of new shoots sprouts, they will be able to grow fat buds and leaves.
